Quality Ceramic Crowns for Implants at affordable prices.
We use Zirconia crowns and Lithium Disilicate (E-Max) crowns to restore both natural teeth and implanted teeth. Recently a patients shared her treatment plan from a neighborhood dentist who was going to charge her $1495/ crown! We were able to offer the same quality crown at a little more than half that cost. I enjoy the challenge of doing artistic crowns. We invite you to visit my gallery of art in my office. Also visit our page on “Everything you wanted to know about Dentistry”.
Crowns and Bridges at Peter Hofmann DDS
When it comes to dealing with major tooth decay, tooth damage, and other serious dental emergencies, one of the best options available is dental crowns or bridges. North Dallas dentist Dr. Peter Hofmann is a dentist and artist who has more than 37 years of experience. He will use his dental care knowledge and his understanding of color, shape, and aesthetics to craft exceptional cosmetic dental restorations at a reasonable price. I recently constructed a 6 -crown Bridge for a patient that transformed his Smile and gave him the assurance that he could chew normally again. Many people are afraid to smile or cannot chew effectively….that is why I love creating “artistic crowns and bridges”.
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are specially crafted dental restorations that fit right over a decayed or damaged tooth or an implant. This snug fit is one reason that people often call dental crowns “caps”. These crowns are fashioned out of porcelain, zirconium, Lithium Disilicate, or gold depending on a patient’s needs. The first three materials are tooth colored, meaning that they will blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth. When in place, the dental crowns will restore your bite strength as well as the beauty of your smile. WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO HAVE A NEW REVOLUTIONARY MATERIAL CALLED CERAMIC- under the name Zirconia, Emax (Lithium Disilicate), or other brand names- that can NOW restore your teeth with extreme strength, beauty, and safety – for these amazing ceramic crowns do not wear opposing teeth.
Ideal Candidates for Dental Crowns
Are those who seek quality care at a reasonable price and either wish to replace an old crown, need an implant restored, or need a tooth restored due to severe tooth decay or tooth damage. Over the last 37 years, I have learned the best methods to save and restore a tooth to its natural look, and yet maintain a healthy substructure. Crowns can cause damage if they are not made, nor fitted correctly. A good crown has perfect margins and the contacts must be tight to prevent food from packing between teeth. If food collects around a crown it can cause periodontal disease and/or recession.
The Dental Crowns Procedure
The treatment process for a crown is rather straightforward and helps ensure excellent results. First, your tooth is prepped for the dental crown, which means removal of damaged or decayed tooth structure. Next, an impression is taken of the tooth. This impression is sent with specific instructions to a dental lab, which will craft a permanent crown. Dr. Hofmann will then try in this permanent dental crown, ensuring that it is securely in place, looks natural and fits properly with the rest of your teeth. I will then cement the crown into place.
Caring for Your Dental Crown
Zirconia is a new, space-age material for crowns that is both beautiful and strong. Zirconia crowns are used to cover both implants and natural teeth. All dental crowns require daily care through normal brushing and flossing. Whenever a person eats a snack or a meal, they should rinse their mouth with water to neutralize acids and remove food particles. The Zirconia crowns offer an advantage over both porcelain and gold. The full zirconia crown will not wear down opposing teeth and yet is strong and cosmetic.
Risks and Benefits of Dental Crowns
There are numerous benefits to getting dental crowns and few risks. The greatest benefits are restored aesthetics and bite strength. You will be able to smile without feeling self-conscious and eat your favorite foods again without pain, sensitivity or discomfort. With that said, we will always opt for a more conservative dental treatment at our North Dallas practice when we can. We prefer that a person keep their natural dentition and natural enamel whenever possible.
Our Approach to Cosmetic and Restorative Treatment
We mention this conservative approach to dentistry because having a natural tooth is better than having a dental restoration. Dental crowns, while effective, do require a fair amount of tooth structure to be removed. Rather than turn to dental crowns as a first resort, we will do our best to maintain as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. This is just part of our commitment to long-term care.
We are also committed to being as green as possible. We use digital x-rays rather than traditional radiography, which means far less radiation exposure for patients. It also eliminates the use of x-ray chemicals. We file many forms electronically to save paper. This is just our way of being good to our patients and responsible members of the community as a whole.
Alternatives to Dental Crowns
Given our conservative approach to dental care, we offer a number of different alternatives to dental crowns, such as inlays and onlays. Both of these options can save a tooth when a large filling fails.
